Referred to as a piece of decor than a heater, the humble towel rail (heated) but it is quite useful piece of kit. They may only put out a low amount of heat due to their design, but at least they can dry your towel. NW4 Plumbers can fit these types of radiator rails. Before you do anything, you should really go and measure the size of the room that the heated towel rail is going in and then go onto the internet and locate a ‘heat requirement calculator’. Many of these are on websites and offer some form of calculator and all you need to do is enter the room’s dimensions and some detail about the room, such as if you have double glazing or is it north facing? etc. NW4 Plumbers can fit heated towel rails.

The result will advise you what Kilowatt (kW) or British thermal unit (Btu) your radiator/rail needs to push out. Bear in mind it is a minimum value, so choose one that gives a slightly higher output, especially if you are going to cover it with lots of wet towels. The heated towel rail is not just a decorative radiator.

Things to think about:

1). These types of heated rails will be fitted higher than standard radiators, for no real reason except looks.
2). It is easier to fit the heated towel rail before any central heating pipework. The rail would be perfectly level then.
3). Straight radiator valves are preferred for a heated towel rail. This is because the valves attach below the rail as opposed to the traditional angled radiator valves on the side of the radiator. If the pipework is coming out of the wall you could stick with angled valves. An NW4 Plumber knows how to fit pipework to rails.
4). Finally, chrome plated heated towel rails will not produce as much heat than an equivalent sized white rail.
